Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly keen on Monza’s Italian midfielder Nicolo Rovella.
According to Tribal Football, Premier League champions Manchester City are currently keeping a close watch on Monza midfielder Nicolo Rovella.
The 20-year-old has been a revelation for the Italian side this season. On a season-long loan at the Brianteo Stadium from Juventus, Rovella is making the most of his opportunity to garner regular senior-level football.
A defensive midfielder, the Italian’s contract in Turin runs until 2026. Juventus, for their part, have no intention of parting ways with the player, and this could prove to be a huge obstacle in Manchester City’s path.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side have struggled this season and are in the midst of a rebuild. It makes sense for them to keep hold of the serious talents on their roster like Rovella and entrust the future to them. The fact that Manchester City are keen is a guaranteed estimate of the youngster’s potential.
Rovella is a technically proficient player with an eye for a pass. An excellent reader of the game, the 20-year-old is good at winning the ball back and has excellent positioning to boot. The Italian starlet is also a goal threat given his prowess with the dead ball. He certainly has all the potential to become a key player for club and country in the years to come.
While he does lack in terms of his aerial prowess, Rovella still has time to develop that aspect of the game. Manchester City have constantly evolved under Guardiola, and signing Rovella would be an indication that the club is seeking to secure its future.
While he is not good enough to immediately play a part at the Etihad, the Italian could become a mainstay for the Sky Blues in the years to come. Rodri and Kalvin Phillips cannot play forever, and bringing in young talent to blood him for the future would be a good piece of business.
Juventus have several promising midfielders coming through their ranks at the moment. Having Rovella develop alongside Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli should give them a trio that can future-proof a key area of the squad. As long as Rovella continues to impress, Juventus have every reason to ward off interest in the player from elsewhere.
