Tottenham Hotspur might renew their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella as Antonio Conte is an avid admirer of the Italian midfielder.
As per Inter Live, Tottenham Hotspur will try to snatch Nicolo Barella from the grasp of Inter Milan. The north Londoners have been hunting for top talents across Europe, and the Italian midfielder has been one of their targets.
Barella has grown in stature since his 2019 move from Cagliari. And since then, he has established himself as one of the most premium central midfielders in the footballing circuit. His drastic development has been pretty synonymous with Inter Milan’s recent success, and that has not gone unnoticed by some of the big players in the transfer market.
Barella was a major catalyst behind Antonio Conte’s success at Inter Milan, as the Italian midfielder emerged as the manager’s favourite pick in the middle of the pitch, helping the Nerazzurri lift the Serie A title in the 2020/21 season.
Conte has lacked a similar kind of engine in the middle of the park at Tottenham. Except for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, he does not have enough bodies to cover most of the games. The Italian tactician has already demanded some needed reinforcements in January, and another midfielder should be his priority as it seems. Recent reports have linked Tottenham with Morten Frendrup.
The 25-year-old Italian international is not the usual kind of midfielder Conte prefers as he loves to be involved more in the final third. And Barella’s numbers speak volumes as he already has registered five goals and six assists in Serie A.
With the Italian international only signing a contract last season, Inter Milan will not bother to entertain Tottenham’s advances. And Tottenham need to break the deadlock with a very lucrative offer which would be hard to reject.
Barella has also been a pivotal part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy setup and is one of the most intelligent midfielders in modern games. The 25-year-old ticks all the boxes that a midfielder should have ideally and is known for his late runs into the opponent’s box.
Inter will not like the idea of offloading the player in January. But a deal in the summer might be possible if the North Londoners are ready to meet their demand. Meanwhile, Tottenham have other Inter Milan players on their radar, including Lautaro Martinez.
