In a major blow to Chelsea, Rafael Leao is in talks with AC Milan to negotiate a new deal with the club in a view to extending his stay.
According to famous journalist Fabrizio Romano as relayed by caught offside, the Portuguese winger has been discussing a potential new deal with AC Milan and an agreement could be reached at any time.
Leao has been one of the most promising young attackers who has made clubs queue up for his service. Chelsea have been very impressed by the player’s display so far and are likely to line up a move in the transfer window.
Graham Potter’s side are winless in the last five Premier League games and they will be waiting for January eagerly to implement their transfer plans. Attacking reinforcements are badly needed and Leao could be one of the options.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling have endured poor form in front of the goal while the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic haven’t been used much.
Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream of young players but Milan will refuse all advances from the English top flight. They will try to convince the 23-year-old about his role in the current sporting project as Milan will be competing on several fronts after the resumption of club football. Fabrizio Romano insisted the club is locked in contract talks with the player.
“There are negotiations ongoing between AC Milan and Rafael Leao, his agents and his family. I’m aware there’s been some speculation about talks stalling, and while it’s not an easy deal, discussions are still ongoing. Paolo Maldini is on it and will try to find a solution as soon as possible. I don’t see a transfer happening in January, honestly as Milan will try to keep him for sure; we’ve to see what happens in the summer.”
Chelsea have the financial muscle to afford a premium transfer fee and the West Londoners can also pay the winger a handsome hike over his current wage. Should the Blues arrive with a tempting offer for the forward it would be hard to refuse.
