Manchester United join race to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk

Manchester United have been monitoring the progress of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who has also received attention from Arsenal this season.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United have been keeping a tab on the development of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhyalo Mudryk. Erik ten Hag wants to bring the 21-year-old winger, a target for Arsenal, to Old Trafford.

Clubs are expected to line up for Mykhaylo Mudryk as soon as the transfer window reopens in January. But Shakhtar won’t be feeling the heat as they have a pretty comfortable situation regarding his long-term contract.

Having established his authority in the youth setup, the youngster broke through the senior ranks last year and has defied all the expectations with his brilliance. The 21-year-old has emerged as Shakhtar’s potent weapon, and the Ukrainian giants have been banking on the player both domestically and continentally.

However, Shakhtar have maintained their stance that any interested suitor will have to shell out a handsome amount to the tune of €100 million if they really want to acquire the service of the player. Arsenal and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal have been hot on Mudryk’s heels for several week, and the Gunners might renew their interest in January. Mikel Arteta has already reiterated that his squad does not have adequate members, and he will be needing reinforcements in January. And Mudryk will be a viable candidate to compete with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the final third.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup might see some casualties here and there, and the Gunners are readying their contingency plan in case they get to lose one of their major players. They currently top the Premier League table, and Arteta would never want to lose the momentum which has had a major influence on their setup so far.

As for Manchester United, while Mudryk might not be a potential like-for-like replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, he can fill in on the flanks while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial compete for the centre-forward role in the final third.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal could tease Shakhtar with an enticing bid. But the transfer battle for the 21-year-old could be stretched to the summer, with other big players like Newcastle United also showing interest..
