Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is considering his future at the west London club after losing his first-team place.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Edouard Mendy is considering his future at Chelsea after losing his first-team berth to Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spanish goalkeeper has established himself as the first-choice keeper under Graham Potter following a series of excellent displays. And it will be interesting to see if Mendy can fight his way back into the starting lineup over the coming months.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper picked up an injury at the start of the season, which allowed Kepa to start for Chelsea. And the Spaniard made the most of it and nailed down a starting spot under Potter. It will be interesting to see if the Chelsea manager is willing to give Mendy a sustained run in the side to prove his quality was once again.
The Senegalese international has been an exceptional signing for Chelsea since joining in the club in 2020, and he helped them win the UEFA Champions League under Thomas Tuchel. A player of his quality deserves to play regularly, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Mendy is currently entering the final two years of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea are reportedly keen on extending his deal. However, the two parties have not been able to reach an agreement yet, and Mendy losing the first-team spot will only jeopardise Chelsea’s chances of tying him down to a new deal.
Graham Potter is known to favour goalkeepers with impressive distribution skills, and Kepa is certainly better than Mendy in that aspect of the game. Furthermore, the Spaniard has been exceptional with his shot-stopping as well.
Kepa is currently nursing a foot injury, and Mendy has been given the opportunity to start for Chelsea in recent matches. However, the Blues have lost three of the four matches he has started, and Kepa is expected to go straight back into the starting lineup once he returns from injury after the World Cup.

If things do not improve, it will not be surprising to see the player angling for a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
