Liverpool dark horses to sign Youri Tielemans

Liverpool could upset Arsenal to land Leicester City star Youri Tielemans

According to Give Me Sport, Premier League giants Liverpool could challenge runaway leaders Arsenal in the race to land Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian international is a key cog in Brendan Rodgers’s setup and a proven star in the English top flight. He played a huge role in their maiden FA Cup win in 2021 and is a dominant presence in the middle of the park.

Tielemans’ contract at the King Power expires next summer, and as of yet, there is little indication that he will pen an extension. This has put several clubs on alert, especially Liverpool and Arsenal. The Gunners were keen to sign the player last summer and despite missing out then, remain interested.

The player, for his part, also appears keen to move to The Emirates and would provide Mikel Arteta’s side with a boost in their Premier League title assault. The North Londoners go into the World Cup hiatus, top of the Premier League and can only blame themselves should they throw it away.

Liverpool experienced a poor start to the campaign but have picked up their game in the last few weeks. More so, Jurgen Klopp’s men are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, something Tielemans will provide.

One would not put it past the Reds to go on a winning run in the second half of the campaign and steadily chip away at Arsenal’s lead in the table. With the likes of Darwin Nunez finding his feet, bringing in the right players to address problematic positions could be a mid-season game changer.

Arsenal, however, are in a better spot at the moment and have also been long-term admirers of the player. It would not go amiss to say that the Gunners currently hold the edge over the Merseysiders in the race for the 25-year-old.

Leicester risks losing a key cog midway through the season, but it could also represent their best shot at recouping a transfer fee for the player. A strong World Cup with Belgium in Qatar will only see Tielemans’ reputation take another shot in the arm, potentially even attracting more suitors to enter the transfer race.
