Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old Spanish international Pau Torres from Villarreal at the end of the season.

According to a report from Fichajes, Newcastle United are looking to improve their defensive department. And the Magpies have identified 25-year-old Spanish defender Pau Torres as a target.

Torres has established himself as a key player for Villarreal over the last few seasons, and he has been constantly linked with a move to the Premier League. The defender has previously been linked with Manchester United. But the Red Devils ended up signing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the last two transfer windows. Recent reports have linked him with Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old is one of the best defenders in La Liga, and he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition Newcastle United. The Magpies have been very ambitious in the market since their takeover, and signing Torres will be a major coup for them.

Torres has a contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2024, and he could be available for a reasonable price at the end of this season. If the player refuses to sign a contract extension with Villarreal, the Spanish club could consider selling him in the summer. They will not want to lose him for free at the end of next season.

Newcastle United have already strengthened their defensive unit, with the signing of Sven Botman, and the Dutchman has been an excellent acquisition for them. Torres could partner Botman at the heart of Newcastle’s defence for years to come, although Fabian Schar has also been top-notch.

A player of his calibre is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can fend off the competition and secure his services in the coming months.

Newcastle are one of the richest clubs in the world right now and have the financial resources to convince Villarreal. Furthermore, the Tyneside outfit have an ambitious project, and Torres could be tempted to join them in the summer. Some of his other suitors are Real Madrid and Arsenal.
