Liverpool should back out from their pursuit of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku due to his vast injury history.

Journalist Robin Brainer has warned Liverpool from plotting any move for Rennes forward Jeremy Doku. Jurgen Klopp would be looking for some additions in January and Doku has emerged as one of his favourites.

The Reds haven’t really replaced Sadio Mane’s goals as Mohamed Salah hasn’t been near his destructive best. Luis Diaz has been on the sidelines with a prolonged injury issue and the Reds might have to add an attacking spark to revive their fortunes.

Despite the arrival of Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan has visibly struggled to cope with the Premier League and hasn’t really justified his price tag. Liverpool have a long-standing interest in the Belgian and this might be the best time to engage in a move.

The 21-year-old hasn’t been used profusely this season and his valuation could further nosedive if he remains a peripheral figure. The Reds could use this situation to sweeten a move but Robin Brainer insisted the club should not go ahead with the transfer as his persistent injury issues could pose a real problem for them.

“The trouble with Jeremy Doku isn’t necessarily his talent. We’ve seen, particularly in the European Championships, just how good a winger he can be. He was devastating for Belgium against Italy.

“But his issue has just consistently been, since he moved to Rennes, staying fit. Again, he’s just been injured, he’s just coming back from injury now. It seems to be a repeating cycle with him. He’ll come back for two or three games then find himself injured for two or three months, and he doesn’t really get any consistency in his performances.

“I think that has to be a red flag for a team like Liverpool who are generally so strong in the transfer market, who pick up players who have got a strong mentality, who don’t get injured and can fit into their team straightaway. Of course, this season, Liverpool have been beset by injury problems. You’re certainly not going to want to pick up an injury-prone winger at this stage of the season.”

Why not, signing an injury prone winger would make a change from signing injury prone midfielders.
