Chelsea ready to step up interest in Arsen Zakharyan

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old Russian international Arsen Zakharyan from Dynamo Moscow.

According to a report from Give Me Sport, Arsen Zakharyan is a target for Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. And the Blues are prepared to pay the the 19-year-old Russian international’s release clause in the coming months.

Zakharyan is regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe, and it is hardly a surprise that the top clubs are keen on securing his services. The player has himself admitted that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge after a move to the London club collapsed in the summer.

Meanwhile, the report adds that Zakharyan is looking to change his citizenship to Armenian from Russian to avoid any complexities regarding a transfer. The midfielder has three goals and six assists to his name with Dynamo Moscow this season, and he has been an important player for the Russian outfit.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Chelsea rate the player quite highly and believe that Zakharyan is being looked at as a special talent by the Londoners. The Blues will not give up on him after failing to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Jones told Give Me Sport, “There’s no doubt they still want this guy. He’s a big deal and Chelsea are ready to roll out the red carpet for him, in many ways. They want to make him feel special and they want to make him feel wanted.”

“They believe that he’s got something very special and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they do try to sign him again.”

Zakharyan has a contract with Dynamo until the summer of 2024, but he is looking to leave as soon as possible. The player’s modest release clause should be affordable for a club with Chelsea’s resources as well.

Apparently, the player could leave for a fee of around £13 million. The 19-year-old Russian international has the potential to justify that outlay in the long run. Zakharyan could even prove to be a bargain if he manages to adapt to the Premier League quickly.

Working with better players at Stamford Bridge will only accelerate his development. Also, Graham Potter did well to nurture young players at Brighton and could play a key role in Zakharyan’s development at Chelsea.
