According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are open to letting Aaron Wan-Bissaka leave. But Crystal Palace can only afford to sign their former defender on a loan deal.
The right-back joined Manchester United in 2019 for a fee of £45 million and was expected to develop into a key player for the Red Devils. However, things have not gone according to plan for the player.
Wan-Bissaka has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth under new manager Erik ten Hag and has played just four first-team minutes this season. He needs to leave in search of regular game time, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United are prepared to sanction his departure in January.
Manchester United have been linked with players like Denzel Dumfries in recent weeks and bringing in another right back would lead to Wan-Bissaka falling further down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
A loan move to Crystal Palace might not benefit Manchester United in any way. They will be losing depth in the right-back position and won’t be able to reinvest the money into the playing squad either.
Diogo Dalot has been the first-choice starter for ttn Hag this season. The Portuguese international is much better going forward and Wan Bissaka’s inefficiency in the final third has led to his downfall at Old Trafford.
Wan-Bissaka played the best football of his career at Crystal Palace. So a return to Selhurst Park could help him regain his confidence and get his career back on track. The Eagles could use defensive reinforcements in January, and the Manchester United defender would be a quality addition, especially on a loan deal.
If he can impress with them, Crystal Palace can then sign him permanently at the end of the season. The report from Sun claims that Palace will have to foot Wan-Bissaka’s £80,000-a-week wages, and it will be an expensive acquisition for them.
