Arsenal are monitoring Ibrahima Bamba to make an approach whenever they get the nod from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.

According to Daily Mirror, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Vitoria Guimaraes’s 20-year-old defensive midfielder Ibrahima Bamba. The Gunners could make an approach if they get the nod from the Portuguese outfit over their willingness to do a deal.

The defensive midfield position has been bothering Arsenal for many years now. For several years, dating back to Arsene Wenger’s time at the club, the Gunners have yet to possess a bonafide start in the area, and to date, they are looking to strengthen the role.

There have been many who have come and gone. Due to the inconsistent displays in the area, Arsenal have lost plenty of points and important games along the way. Thomas Partey is performing exceptionally in the role, but the Gunners need more options to support him and later succeed the Ghanaian international.

Moreover, whenever Partey has suffered injuries, the team has looked weaker without a viable backup. Arsenal also have Mohamed Elneny in the squad, who has done a reasonable job in the Ghanian’s absence at times, and so has Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Lokonga is still considered for a more advanced role in the future. Hence, the Gunners are in the market for a new defensive midfielder, with Manuel Locatelli among the names linked. The Italian midfielder is an excellent option if available. But alternatively, Mikel Arteta might be looking at a player he can develop over time.

Hence, there are these links to Ibrahima Bamba. The 20-year-old Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder has had a good time at the Portuguese club and could leap to a bigger side. Arsenal have reportedly watched the player for some time now, and an approach could be on the cards. Bamba has a release clause worth £26.5 million in his contract.

Arsenal are waiting to understand if Vitoria Guimaraes are open to negotiating a move in January. The defensive midfielder only signed a new deal last month until 2026, which would make him a difficult target to pursue. But Arsenal only need to trigger his £26.5 million release clause.

Nonetheless, the Gunners have watched him extensively and may open talks with Vitoria Guimaraes over a deal. For now, the Portuguese outfit may not want to sell him in January, but much will depend on the offers they receive.
