Tottenham plot deal to sign Denzel Dumfries

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing a right back and they have identified Denzel Dumfries as a target.

Antonio Conte is looking to sort out his right back problems and the Dutch international defender Denzel Dumfries is on his January transfer shortlist as per Calciomercatoweb.

The 26-year-old has been a key player for Inter Milan and it will be interesting to see whether Spurs can bring the Italian club to the negotiating table with a lucrative offer. The player is a target for Chelsea as well.

The report claims that the defender could cost around €40 million. However, there could be another player included in any potential transfer. As per Calciomercatoweb, the Italian giants have been following Emerson Royal for a while now and they could look to bring the Brazilian to Italy as a replacement for Dumfries.

If Spurs end up signing Dumfries, there is no reason why they would not want to cash in on Royal. The former La Liga player has been a liability at the back and Conte needs to find an upgrade on him.

Spurs signed Djed Spence in the summer but the youngster has not managed to earn Conte’s trust yet. Matt Doherty has done reasonably well as the right back but he is inconsistent.

Dumfries should prove to be an upgrade on all three players. He has been excellent going forward and reliable defensively.

The 26-year-old can operate as a right-back as well as a wing-back. He could be an excellent fit for Conte’s back three system. Dumfries could play as a right-sided wing-back and contribute significantly in both phases of play.

The reported asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his ability as well. Dumfries is just entering his peak years and Spurs would be able to enjoy his best football over the next few seasons.

The chance to join a Premier League club is an attractive proposition and Dumfries is likely to be open to the move as well. He would get to play Champions League football as Spurs and a world-class manager like Antonio Conte could help him improve further.
