Leeds United are eyeing a deal for Marseille’s young defensive midfielder Pape Gueye.
As per Jeunes footeux, Leeds are very much interested in securing the service of 23-year-old Pape Gueye and could make a move in January. Gueye hasn’t been much involved this season and the French club might opt to cash in on the midfielder.
The Whites have had an erratic start to the season but their brilliant win over Liverpool at Anfield might set the tone for the remainder of the season. They lost Kalvin Phillips in the summer to Manchester City and invested the fund to bring in Tyler Adams and Marc Roca who have looked to be on song most of the time.
Adams has already earned the plaudits for his performance and a number of clubs including archrivals Manchester United are monitoring his development at Elland Road.
Adam Forshaw might leave the club in search of more regular game time and it will allow the management to bring in someone who would be able to provide the necessary support whenever needed.
Gueye has already got the exposure required to perform on the bigger stages and Jesse Marsch has been looking for some quality additions to his ranks. Both Forshaw and Mateusz Klich haven’t elevated to that level and injuries to Adams or Roca could disrupt Leeds’ plan.
Gueye doesn’t seem to be in plans for Marseille manager Igor Tudor who hasn’t used the player. Only three starts in Ligue 1 don’t suit the player’s agenda and the 23-year-old will likely find a new destination for him.
The midfielder will be departing for the World Cup with Senegal and a good show in football’s biggest tournament could earn him a prized move to the English Premier League.
Gueye has fallen down the pecking order and is currently the fourth-choice midfielder at the French club. If the situation doesn’t improve he might force the club to sell him at their desired value. Southampton are also keeping an eye on the player and might be tangled in a two-horse race for the player.
