Serie A giants Juventus have reportedly established contact with Alvaro Odriozola, who could leave Real Madrid in January.
According to a report by French outlet Foot Mercato, Alvaro Odriozola is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants have established contact with the Spanish defender, who faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
Alvaro Odriozola has seen his stock plummet since joining Real Madrid from Real Sociedad four years ago. The 26-year-old was one of the best young full-backs in Spain at the time but has failed to progress much at the Santiago Bernabeu. His best phase has come on loan at Fiorentina, but he has not clicked since returning to Real Madrid.
The Spanish defender is yet to feature for Real Madrid in the ongoing season, with Carlo Ancelotti preferring Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal to him. So Odriozola might leave the reigning La Liga champions at the turn of the year. And the player does not have a shortage of suitors pursuing him, with Juventus keen on signing him.
The Serie A giants are in a period of transition under Massimiliano Allegri, who has struggled to stamp his authority at the Allianz Stadium thus far in his second stint. Juventus bowed out of the UEFA Champions League this week after finishing third in their group. And their prospects in Serie A are not bright either.
Several positions need reinforcements for Juventus to rise through the standings again. One of those areas is the right-back slot, with Juan Cuadrado in the twilight of his career. While the veteran Colombian has been an asset for Juventus for several years, his performance levels have regressed considerably in the past year.
Juventus will thus have to invest in a right-back next year. And with Odriozola has emerged as a viable target as he has already enjoyed a solid loan stint in Serie A with Fiorentina. The report claims the Italian giants have established contact with the Real Madrid defender.
Real Madrid will unlikely demand a lot to let Odriozola leave, with recent reports claiming he has a price tag worth €15 million. It will be interesting to see if Juventus will fork out such a sum to land the Spaniard. For now, the Serie A heavyweights have contacted the 26-year-old over a possible move.
