Manchester United considering Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting move

Manchester United have reportedly identified Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as their next target.

According to Media Foot Marseille, Manchester United are seriously considering a move for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as their search for a prolific goalscorer continues.

The 33-year-old has been in astonishing form for Bayern Munich, despite his limited resources and has outperformed his contemporaries this season. He has so far returned with a tally of eight goals and three assists in 12 games in all competitions this term, and the Bavarians are more than impressed with his performance.

Choupo-Moting’s stock has been on the rise, but his current contractual situation could complicate his stay at the German club. The 33-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of this season, and Bayern have shown their intent to keep the player beyond the current campaign.

Manchester United’s choice of players in recent times attracted severe criticism, as they club were on the verge of finalising a move for Adrien Rabiot and Marko Arnautovic. A large section of the supporters voiced their concerns, and Manchester United forced to take a back step.

Given Choupo-Moting’s age, he is unlikely to be a long-term prospect for the club. And the possibility of losing Cristiano Ronaldo might have worked behind the plan. Choupo-Moting has been delivering the goods, including this week in the UEFA Champions League.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo could be on his way out from Old Trafford as his struggle for goals has not been a usual scene at Manchester United. The Portuguese international finished as the club’s highest scorer last season, but that has not reflected this season as he has to make way for other attackers for the centre-forward role.

Choupo-Moting had an unsuccessful spell with Stoke City, so he might not be completely unknown in the Premier League territory. His career graph has somewhat heightened in the last couple of years as he went on to play a bit part role for Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Germany.

There are more suitable candidates if Manchester United are really interested in making a value-for-money move. But the in-form Bayern Munich forward could emerge as a surprise element for the Red Devils if he is given a longer run.
