Manchester United are willing to tie down Marcus Rashford to a new deal as the forward will be a free agent next summer.

As per Daily Mail, United are very keen to keep Marcus Rashford at the club and will trigger the one-year contract option if they fail to agree to a new deal. The 25-year-old recently netted his 100th goal for the club as he headed home the winner in the last match against West Ham United.

The English international currently earns to the tune of £200,000 per week. And should he put pen to paper on a new contract he could be one of the top earners in the Premier League.

The Manchester United academy product showed his knack for returning to form as he has emerged as the Red Devils’ new goalscoring threat this season. Since being handed a debut by Louis van Gaal in 2016, the youngster has been a regular in the Manchester United setup and has had some great seasons for the club over the years.

He has so far returned with a tally of seven goals and three assists in 15 games and could breach his best seasonal tally of 17 goals which he registered in the 2019/20 season.

Paris Saint-Germain took a keen interest in the player this past summer. And his entourage had a meeting with the club. But nothing came out of it, although PSG might be interested in making a move next summer.

Erik ten Hag has preferred Rashford in a more central role. And his header against the Hammers is proof of his ability to fulfil the centre-forward role with sheer precision. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, it would be a tough battle to get the necessary formalities done as the player is a favourite to board that flight to Qatar later this month.

But the Red Devils do not want to risk losing their most prized asset and will exercise the one-year extension clause in the contract. He expressed his happiness with the manager’s role and should be open to signing on the dotted line on favourable terms. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can stave off the pressure from PSG to retain Rashford.
