Konrad Laimer is reportedly open to joining a Premier League club, thus handing a boost to Liverpool.
According to a report from 90min, Liverpool are keen on bringing Konrad Laimer to Anfield. And the Austrian midfielder is open to joining a Premier League club.
Apparently Manchester United were keeping tabs on the player during the summer transfer window as well, but they decided to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid instead. Meanwhile, with Laimer open to joining an English club, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to make their move during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old Austrian international has a contract with RB Leipzig until the summer of 2023. And the Bundesliga club could look to cash in on him during the winter transfer window.
They will not want to lose a key player on a free transfer, and it makes sense for them to sell him for a nominal price in January. Even if the move does not happen midway through the season, the player will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
Liverpool are in need of midfield reinforcements, and Laimer seems like an ideal addition for them. Currently, Brazilian midfielder Fabinho is going through a rough patch, and Klopp needs to bring in more quality for the defensive midfield role. And Liverpool have reportedly been in contact with the 25-year-old.
Laimer would challenge the Brazilian international for the starting berth, and the increased competition will only help both players improve. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool can convince the Bundesliga outfit to sell the player for a reasonable price in January.
Signing players like Laimer on a bargain could prove to be a masterstroke in the long run, and it remains to be seen how the situation evolves. The Reds will be hope that the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich do not reignite their interest in the player anytime soon.
The report for 90min claims that Bayern are focused on signing the Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan instead. Laimer has proven his quality in Germany and has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League as well. He is already used to playing in a high-intensity system at Leipzig and should be able to settle in quickly at Liverpool as well.
