Liverpool are reportedly long-term admirers of Konrad Laimer but face competition from PSG for the RB Leipzig midfielder.
According to a report from Give Me Sport, Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Konrad Laimer for a while. But the Reds will have to face competition from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain to secure the services of the 25-year-old midfielder.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has confirmed to GMS that Laimer has been under consideration at Liverpool for a while now and he will be a free agent in the summer.
He told GiveMeSport, “There has been a long-term interest there, and he is a free agent in the summer as well, so it does tick a lot of boxes for Liverpool as well as a number of other clubs.
“I think Bayern Munich are also interested, possibly PSG as well, so there’s going to be a pretty intense race to try and sign Laimer, especially if he’s available on a free transfer.”
It is understandable why the 25-year-old is an attractive target for the Premier League side. His contract situation at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig allows Liverpool to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The player will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs when the transfer window opens in January. Alternatively, Liverpool could sign the RB Leipzig midfielder for a nominal price in January itself. Recent reports have claimed that they are in contact with the 25-year-old.
The Bundesliga giants will not want to lose a key player for free and could consider selling him for a reasonable price in the coming months.
Liverpool are in desperate need of a quality defensive midfielder, and Laimer seems like the ideal fit for them. The 25-year-old He knows all about playing in a high-intensity system and would be a good fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Club captain Jordan Henderson has regressed considerably over the past year, and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has not been at his best for a while now. The Reds need to bring in more quality for that position, and Laimer would be a solid acquisition.
If Liverpool can sign the 25-year-old for a reasonable price in January, the move could look like a masterstroke in the long run. However, PSG and Bayern Munich are also attractive options for the player, and it will be interesting to see what he decides.
PSG and Bayern Munich certainly have more resources compared to Liverpool, and the Reds are in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season. Moreover, the reigning Ligue 1 and Bundesliga champions win trophies more regularly. If Liverpool cannot finish in the top four, it will be difficult for them to attract top players like Laimer to Anfield.
