La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly tracking 20-year-old centre-back Piero Hincapie at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Piero Hincapie has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar over a possible move in 2023. The reigning La Liga champions are monitoring the 20-year-old centre-back’s progress at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
Piero Hincapie spent his formative years at various Ecuadorian clubs before graduating from the Independiente del Valle academy in 2019. And after a short stint in Argentina with CA Talleres, he joined Bayer Leverkusen in August 2021. Since then, the promising centre-back has made swift progress in Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old has featured prominently for Bayer Leverkusen in the past year, amassing 48 appearances thus far. Hincapie will also likely represent his nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup following Ecuador’s qualification for the grand event. And his progress in Bundesliga has captured the attention of several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions have signed three centre-backs in as many summer transfer windows since 2020. But Real Madrid might enter the market for another central defender next year. That is because Nacho faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu amid long-dragging contract talks.
Recent reports have claimed that the veteran centre-back might leave Real Madrid next summer after refusing to sign a new deal. And amid Nacho’s links with a few La Liga clubs, Los Blancos might have to enter the market for a central defender. Hincapie has thus emerged as a viable target.
The Ecuadorian defender is only 20 years old and at an early stage in his career. So despite the presence of three top-class centre-backs at Real Madrid, he will fancy his prospects over the coming decade if he joins Real Madrid. Hincapie is thus a viable target for Real Madrid heading into the 2023 summer transfer window.
The Merengues also have a few other centre-backs on their radar, including Pierre Kalulu. But the 20-year-old centre-back is also an option worth keeping tabs on for Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see if the player’s progress at Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen convinces Real Madrid to launch the offensive for him next year.
