Tottenham preparing improved contract for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tottenham want to tie Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to a new deal at the club following his influential displays under Antonio Conte.

According to The Times, Tottenham are eager to extend Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s deal. They could offer the midfielder a new contract in the immediate future. The club values the 27-year-old midfielder as an important part of their project and are keen to see him remain in north London.

Few players go about their job quietly but effectively and become key cogs of a system. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be in that bracket, as he has proved to be a solid signing for Tottenham over the years. Signed in the summer of 2020 under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, the Danish midfielder has been influential for Spurs.

Hojbjerg is part of the core group of senior stars under Antonio Conte, including Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier. His growing importance in the side has been evident over the last few seasons, having played regularly under all three managers so far.

While Tottenham are keen to extend Conte’s contract, they also ponder offering deals to their core stars, including Kane and Hojbjerg. The 27-year-old midfielder’s current deal expires in 2025, and he earns around £100,000 per week in wages.

The reported new contract will see his wages rise. Tottenham were aware of interest in the midfielder during the summer window and remains keen on keeping him. It could be similar to Son Heung-min, who signed a new contract at the start of last season.

Keeping players like Hojbjerg will help Tottenham convince their manager Conte to sign a new deal. The Italian is stalling on a new contract, as reports suggest he could be waiting on proposals from Real Madrid, PSG or Juventus.

Hojbjerg has played a key role in Spurs’ best start to a season and will be available again when Tottenham travels to take on Bournemouth. Whether the 27-year-old midfielder signs a new deal remains the question, but there are no indications he wouldn’t.

Once Tottenham gets this extension over the line, they might focus on opening talks with Kane over a potential new deal. The Spurs board wants to keep their key players and see a strong team built on the foundations of experienced stars like Hojbjerg and Kane.
