Barcelona plot January move for Dani Olmo

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo, a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the January transfer window. The RB Leipzig playmaker is also a target for Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Dani Olmo spent most of his formative years in Barcelona’s famed academy, La Masia. But he took a brave decision to end his youth career in Croatia after joining Dinamo Zagreb. And the decision paid off as he rose to prominence quickly before earning a move to a top-five European league in January 2020.

The 24-year-old has made gradual progress since joining RB Leipzig nearly three years ago. And Olmo has started the 2022/23 season slowly, managing only 453 minutes of game-time. But he has a decent output of two goals and three assists in nine outings. The Spanish international also remains a hot property in the market, with Barcelona and Manchester United interested in him.

Barcelona attempted to sign the Spaniard late in the summer transfer window of 2021. Olmo has remained on the Catalan club’s radar since then, with the Blaugrana even considering a move in August. And with Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou, the RB Leipzig playmaker is a viable target for Barcelona.

Olmo’s ability to reprise roles in midfield and attack also makes him an appealing prospect for Barcelona. And the Catalan giants want to sign the 24-year-old in the January transfer window. But their delicate financial situation will likely put Manchester United in a healthy position to land the Spanish international.

Bruno Fernandes is the first-choice no. 10 for Manchester United. But with Jadon Sancho blowing hot and cold, Olmo can be an option on the flanks for the Red Devils. However, the report does not mention if Manchester United will look to sign the Spaniard in January.
