Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk is open to joining Newcastle United at the end of the season.
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United scouts watched Mykhaylo Mudryk in action against Celtic this week. And Eddie Howe has already given his approval to sign the 21-year-old winger.
The Ukrainian attacker has been in sensational form in the UEFA Champions League this season, amassing three goals and two assists in five appearances. The player is keen on moving to the Premier League next year. But he could look to stay until the summer if Shakhtar Donetsk make it to the knockout rounds of the competition.
The 21-year-old has been linked with clubs like Arsenal as well. And it will be interesting to see whether Newcastle United can secure the services in the coming months.
Premier League side Brentford tried to sign Mudryk in the summer transfer window. But the Bees had a bid of around £26 million rejected for the player, according to Football Insider.
The Shakhtar Donetsk winger can play on both flanks, and as an attacking midfielder as well. However, Mudryk is naturally a left-sided winger, and he will be expected to compete with Allan Saint-Maximin for a starting berth at Newcastle United, if they follow up on their interest.
The Magpies are lacking in depth in the wide areas, and Eddie Howe has had to field makeshift options whenever Saint-Maximin is injured. Mudryk’s arrival will give the Newcastle United boss more options to work with, and it would strengthen his side offensively.
The 21-year-old is a prodigious talent with a massive future ahead of him. There is no reason why he cannot develop into a world-class footballer with the right guidance and experience.
Newcastle have an exceptional project at St. James’ Park. They are one of the richest clubs in the world, and the Magpies will hope to challenge for major trophies in the coming seasons. They need to sign quality players like Mudryk to achieve their ambitions.
Newcastle might not be able to offer him Champions League next season, and one can only hope that it won’t be a deal breaker for the player. But with the Ukrainian winger ready to join the Tyneside outfit, it will be interesting to see if a summer transfer sees the light of day.
