Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are considering offering €50 million to sign Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.

According to Inter Live, Manchester United are pondering a move for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, who is also on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils will certainly be bringing in a defender as their transition phase is still building up.

Inter Milan snatched Alessandro Bastoni from the grasp of Parma in 2019, and the 23-year-old has held the fort with sheer precision. The Italian defender is also regarded as the perfect successor to Leonardo Bonucci. And with Italy not qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he will have a seamless transition to the national team as it seems.

Italy is known as the land of defenders, and Bastoni is carrying the legacy forward. And the youngster has attracted a lot of attention with his defensive antics.

Manchester United brought in Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, as Harry Maguire’s shaky form led to a big question mark over future plans. Raphael Varane suffered an injury in the game against Chelsea, which is threatening to derail Manchester United’s momentum. And to avoid further risk, the Red Devils want an additional pair of feet in the squad.

Manchester United’s history with Italian players has not been memorable, as players like Matteo Darmian failed to keep up with the nature of the Premier League. But Bastoni could break the hoodoo as he has the qualities to compete in the English top flight.

Inter’s financial condition is under severe threat, and they might need to offload some of the players to get into the safe zone. A move in January feels pretty difficult, but the Italian defender will enter the final year of his season next summer. And the Nerazzurri might have to lower their asking price in case they fail to agree to a new contract.

Antonio Conte had the experience of handling the player during his stint at Inter. And a move to Tottenham might be best suited for Bastoni. The player is well acquainted with Conte’s demands and might thrive under pressure in the Premier League.

Clement Lenglet will be back in Barcelona after his loan stint ends, leaving Conte with a big gap to fill in. And Bastoni could be the man for the North London club. Inter have slapped a €50 million price tag on the player. But there would be serious negotiations over his fee.

Both Manchester United and Spurs will likely go head to head for his services, and it remains to be seen who emerges as the winner. For now, both Premier League bigwigs are open to offering €50 million to sign Bastoni.
