Chelsea could revisit their interest in Cristiano Ronaldo, with the wantaway Manchester United forward falling down the pecking order.
According to a report in Sunday World, Chelsea want to pursue a move for Cristiano Ronaldo in January. The 37-year-old was removed from the Manchester United squad which faced Chelsea on Saturday, and it will be interesting to see when Erik ten Hag reintegrates him into the equation.
Ronaldo was offered to a number of clubs by super agent Jorge Mendes in the summer. But no team took that opportunity seriously to welcome the wantaway Manchester United ace. He remained at Manchester United, but due to fitness concerns, Erik ten Hag has mostly used him as a substitute in the Premier League.
The former Real Madrid talisman has also lost his pace and agility to some extent. And his poor run of form and attitude issues might have affected his relationship with the manager. Ronaldo stormed out of the stadium and even refused to come on as a substitute as the Red Devils played one of their best games of the season to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the top flight.
Speculations are rife that the player might have played his last match for Manchester United and will be sold if a suitable offer arrives. The Red Devils are believed to be so desperate to get him off the wage bill that they might ponder terminating his contract to get rid of him.
Chelsea have made a brilliant start to life under Graham Potter, as they are yet to lose a match since he took charge. But there is some actual work to be done to sharpen the attack. And owner Todd Boehly might feel the lure of bringing in Ronaldo would be too hard to resist.
The Portuguese ace will bring his experience, and the Blues will also be getting a total package which will add more value to their club. Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus certainly changed the dimension of Italian football, and he could emulate the same should he arrive at Stamford Bridge.
But it will be interesting to see if Manchester United will let one of their main rivals strengthen their squad by handing out Ronaldo. The story will unfold soon as the season progresses.
