Wilfried Zaha will shun a new contract at Crystal Palace and aim to sign for a big-six side with Arsenal and Tottenham in the mix.
According to the Daily Mail, Wilfried Zaha could join a big-six side once his Crystal Palace contract expires. The 29-year-old Premier League attacker is likely to snub any efforts from Palace to extend his deal to feature for a bigger side in England.
The talks of Crystal Palace not relying on Wilfried Zaha anymore are somewhat wide off the mark. The Ivorian scored the winners in the club’s recent home victories and highlighted his stature in the team. Patrick Vieira may have the team playing well at times, but the 29-year-old adds something they don’t have.
As Zaha entered the final year of his deal in the summer, there were rumours of a move to Chelsea. The 29-year-old Premier League attacker stayed at Selhurst Park, uncertain about his future.
Whispers about Palace readying a new deal persists. However, there are questions about Zaha’s desire to extend. The 29-year-old attacker is keen to explore a new phase and dreams of playing for a big-six side. It may be one of the last few remaining opportunities for the winger to feature for a top club, with age not by his side.
A few years ago, he was heavily linked with Arsenal. Instead, the Gunners signed Nicolas Pepe in a club record deal. While the latter has departed on loan, the Gunners remain in the market for a wide attacker. Zaha might be a bit older for Mikel Arteta’s liking, but he would be a perfect player to upgrade with.
Arsenal are reportedly keen to explore the idea, and Zaha might find it hard to turn down an opportunity. If the Gunners decide against bringing in the 29-year-old Premier League attacker, Tottenham could be ready to pounce.
Spurs did sign Richarlison in a big-money move and the Brazilian has scored twice after 13 games. Antonio Conte would welcome a player of readymade quality, and Zaha fits the bill. The 29-year-old would elevate the quality of this Tottenham side to another level and bring the edge they’ve been missing this season.
Zaha’s suitors might make an approach in January. It may be the only chance for Palace to recoup some money. Vieira would not want to lose a player like Zaha midway through the season, but it could be an interesting prospect.
