Chelsea ready to extend Romelu Lukaku’s loan stay at Inter Milan

Chelsea are set to extend Romelu Lukaku’s loan stay at Serie A club Inter Milan for another season in an attempt to sell him in near future.

According to the English publication Daily Mirror, Inter Milan are set to retain the service of Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku for another season. And a deal could be agreed upon between the two clubs.

Chelsea paid to the tune of £97.5 million to the Serie A club to sign Romelu Lukaku in 2021. But his arrival did not have the desired impact as the Belgian forward barely influenced the game.

Following an explosive interview where he expressed his desire to return to Italy, Lukaku had a fallout with former manager Thomas Tuchel which also curtailed his game time at Stamford Bridge.

His return to San Siro also has not gone as per the plan as a muscle injury has restricted him to just three Serie A appearances so far. Inter paid a meagre loan fee in the region of €8 million and Chelsea are also entitled to receive a bonus which could go up to €3 million.

Lukaku is also receiving a €12 million wage which is also being afforded by Inter so as per the current situation both clubs should reach a conclusion regarding the future of the former Manchester United striker.

A permanent striker would be the best possible scenario for the three parties, but the Nerazzurri do not seem to have the financial condition to fund the move.

The Blues are ready to forego substantial money to offload the player in the summer of 2024, but any future setback could hurt the deal. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup looming large Todd Boehly would be hoping for a strong show which could further Lukaku’s value.

Eminent rapper Jay-Z reportedly intervened and advised the Chelsea owner to let Lukaku spend his time at Inter as it would be a win-win situation for both clubs.

It remains to be seen whether current manager Graham Potter would agree to the decision as he seems to have an acute forward problem. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has struggled to justify his selection while Armando Broja has found the net just once in the Premier League so far.
