Liverpool have made initial contacts with Benfica for Florentino Luis, who has €120 million release clause, in view of a future move.

As per Portugal outlet Record, Liverpool have sounded out Florentino Luis’s agent and Benfica to find out whether a move will be feasible The Reds have been searching for a suitable midfielder to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s plans, and it seems they have finally found out the perfect match.

Liverpool’s midfield woes have created major issues in their path. And with a number of midfielders out of contract next summer, they will feel the need to revamp their unit. James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be free agents next summer, and the Merseysiders will definitely bring in some much-needed replacements.

Thiago Alcantara’s persistent injury issues have not boded well with Liverpool’s game plan. In addition, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have not been consistent enough. The Reds brought in Arthur Melo from Juventus on loan this past summer on an emergency basis, but the Brazilian has already been ruled out for the rest of 2022.

Florentino Luis shot to fame as he climbed up the ranks at Benfica. The 23-year-old has had loan spells at AS Monaco and Getafe, but surprisingly they did not help in his development. This season the Portuguese midfielder has been quite majestic with his performance; and his ability to control the proceedings from the base of the midfield alerted the Premier League giants.

Liverpool have also been linked with Florentino Luis’s Benfica teammate Enzo Fernandez. But the Portuguese club would not let them leave without having received the proper compensation. Luis, though, has a mammoth €120 million release clause.

The Portuguese midfielder signed a contract extension at the club until 2027 which reportedly also has the release clause. The €120 million is to be paid in full if any club wants to acquire the services of the 23-year-old.

But the Reds do have a good relationship with Benfica and would be hoping to negotiate to reduce a large chunk of the €120 million clause. The Portuguese club recently sold Darwin Nunez to Liverpool and might be ready for another departure. Liverpool do not seem to have any competitor as of now. But there won’t be a dearth of suitors for the talented midfielder.
