Tottenham considering January move for Leonardo Bonucci

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is reportedly keen on a reunion with Leonardo Bonucci, with the defender falling out with Massimiliano Allegri.

According to Giulio Mola of Il Giorno, Leonardo Bonucci could leave Juventus in January and join Tottenham. Reports of a fallout with current Massimiliano Allegri are circulating, and former Juventus manager Antonio Conte could target the veteran.

Leonardo Bonucci represents a few of the last remaining great Italian defenders who have defied age-related concerns and played through at the highest level. The centre-back, 35, is the club captain and reportedly has problems with manager Massimiliano Allegri.

Tensions are high between the pair, and the centre-back may end up departing the club in January. It would be a huge blow for Juventus in their bid to stabilise the team following a disastrous start to the current season.

Bonucci has been a regular this term, but his game time has been dwindling too much for his liking. While his contract lasts until the summer of 2024, he might consider a new opportunity to get away from the problems he is enduring in Turin.

Tottenham are reportedly on his case, as Antonio Conte would like to add quality depth at the back. As the Italian manager prefers playing with three centre-backs in his system, adding a player of Bonucci’s quality and experience will help them get better.

Spurs are experiencing a brilliant start to a Premier League season and sit third in the standings behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Conte knows very well the idea of adding to the current squad in January will help Tottenham push toward a title challenge or at least cement their place in the top four.

Moreover, Conte has extensively worked with Bonucci during his time at Juventus and the Italian national team. Knowing what the defender would bring to the side, the Tottenham boss might sanction a move in January.

Juventus could demand a reasonable fee from suitors, but Spurs will be hopeful of brokering a cut-price move. They did sign Clement Lenglet on loan for similar purposes, but signing a player like Bonucci would be a big boost in quality.

Conte and Tottenham have ambitions this season, and signing players with notable experience and quality would be something they would like. For now, reports claim there are problems between Bonucci and Juventus. But whether Spurs attract the 35-year-old Italian defender enough to make a switch remains to be seen.
