AC Milan will have to compete with Real Madrid and Manchester United to acquire the services of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid and Manchester United are ready to provide some stiff competition to AC Milan for the transfer of Cody Gakpo.
The Dutch international was close to sealing a transfer to Leeds United in the summer. But PSV Eindhoven rejected all advances on the deadline day. The Whites even hired a private jet to get the deal rapidly, but the winger acted against a move and stayed at the club.
Manchester United also actively pursued the player. But the arrival of Antony from Ajax cooled their interest. However, the Red Devils will be keen to renew the negotiations after a series of hapless displays in the attacking third.
Manchester United have failed to flex their attacking muscle so far, and Erik ten Hag has felt the need to add at least one attacker in January.
With PSV doing well in the Eredivisie it would be a pretty difficult deal to be done at a go. Real Madrid have also generated enough interest in the player and might test PSV with a teasing bid.
With Eden Hazard failing to justify his worth, Los Blancos are searching for a winger who could be his like-to-like replacement. And Gakpo fits the bill perfectly. Real Madrid are riding high following their Champions League triumph over Liverpool last season, and their recent performances in La Liga have also been pretty inspiring.
Hazard’s downfall has not disrupted their on-field showings so far. But the Spanish giants want to take all the necessary precautions. So a deal for Gakpo seems to be waiting in the wings for Real Madrid.

AC Milan have also looked at the player as they are also in the hunt for some possible reinforcements to strengthen their attacking contingent. Rafael Leao has refused to extend his stay and might be on his way to the Premier League, with a number of big clubs, including Manchester United, vying for his signature. Gakpo could be his immediate replacement, but AC Milan will have to splash a hefty amount to sign him.
