Real Madrid keeping tabs on Alphonso Davies

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly closely monitoring the progress of Bayern Munich speedster Alphonso Davies.

Reputed Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz has told MARCA’s Twitch channel that Alphonso Davies features high on Real Madrid’s wishlist of left-back targets. The reigning La Liga champions are keeping tabs on the Bayern Munich speedster’s progress.

Alphonso Davies first burst into the limelight when he emerged as a prodigious young winger at Vancouver Whitecaps. A native of Buduburam in Ghana, the 21-year-old settled in Canada before rising in stature in the North American nation. And his exploits for Vancouver Whitecaps attracted Bayern Munich.

The Canadian international joined the Bundesliga giants in January 2019, and he has risen in stature exponentially. Davies has featured 127 times for Bayern Munich, chipping in with five goals and 21 assists. And after remodelling himself as a speedy left-back, he has emerged on the radars of several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti currently has two left-back options at his disposal in Ferland Mendy and former Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. But Mendy has blown hot and cold lately, while Alaba prefers to play as a centre-back. So Los Blancos might need to delve into the market for a solution.

The reigning La Liga champions have mostly shown interest in centre-backs like Milan Skriniar. But pursuing a left-back might be in Real Madrid’s best interests, with Davies being a viable target. However, chasing the Bayern Munich speedster will be tricky for the Merengues.

The 21-year-old is a pivotal figure for Bayern Munich and a first-choice member of the defensive unit. And while Davies has encountered health scares in the past year, he remains an indispensable member of Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. So signing the Canadian international might be next to impossible for Real Madrid.

Despite their allure, the Spanish champions will struggle to prise the youngster away from another top-tier European club. For now, Real Madrid will continue to closely monitor the progress of the Bayern Munich speedster at the Allianz Arena.
