Juventus keen on signing Ilkay Gundogan

Serie A giants Juventus have reportedly set their sights on Manchester City midfield maestro Ilkay Gundogan over a move in 2023.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Ilkay Gundogan is the subject of interest from Juventus over a possible move in the January transfer window. The German midfield maestro will enter the final six months of his Manchester City contract in 2023.

Ilkay Gundogan joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund half a dozen years ago and has had a rollercoaster ride at the Etihad. The 31-year-old initially encountered several fitness issues, which restricted his game time considerably. But Gundogan has been performing at his peak in the last few seasons and is now the club captain.

The German international has turned out 266 times thus far for Manchester City, chipping in with 51 goals and 34 assists. But the reigning Premier League champions are in a spot of bother over Gundogan’s long-term future as he has entered the final year of his contract. Such a situation has captured the attention of Juventus.

The Serie A giants have made a horrendous start to the 2022/23 season, and they will unlikely win a trophy this term. And Massimiliano Allegri is under increasing pressure following the shock 2-0 loss to Maccabi Haifa this week. That is seemingly not stopping Juventus from planning for the January transfer window.

Signing a new midfielder is one of the priorities for the Bianconeri, with the current lot being underwhelming. Allegri has not managed to get the best out of most midfielders, with many often leaving a lot to be desired. Many players, including N’Golo Kante, have thus emerged on Juventus’s radar.

Gundogan is also a viable target for the Serie A giants, as the Manchester City midfield maestro will bring a wealth of experience. But Juventus will still find it tough to sign Gundogan in January, even though he is in the final year of his contract.

The 31-year-old has also attracted interest from other European bigwigs, including FC Barcelona. As for Juventus, it seems highly unlikely that the Serie A giants will land the Manchester City captain in the 2023 January transfer window.
