Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard could be the subject of interest from Chelsea, with the Blues monitoring his current situation.

According to a report by German publication Sport Bild, Chelsea have shortlisted Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard as a potential target. The 26-year-old has been engrossed in a contract standoff, and it remains to be seen where his imminent future lies.

Chelsea have long been an admirer of Pavard and had looked at him for a brief period in the summer. But the French defender did not signal any intention of leaving Bayern Munich, and the Blues were left to pursue other targets.

Chelsea are ready to renew their interest in the player again as he is yet to commit to his long-term future with Bayern Munich. And the Blues are ready to pounce should he fail to agree to a new deal.

Predominantly a right-back, the French international is capable of playing anywhere in the backline. And it is his versatility that makes him pretty viable in the sea of other players.

It has been a mixed start for the German champions as they are still figuring out their best possible combination in the Bundesliga. Pavard has been a regular starter for Bayern Munich. But of late, he has been in and out of the starting lineups, as Noussair Mazraoui has been preferred over him.

Chelsea will be keeping a strict watch on the player. And should they find any kind of opportunities they will attempt to sneak in as early as possible.

Bayern don’t have any desire to let the talented defender leave for free when his contract expires in 2024 and could be forced to sell next summer. Stamford Bridge saw a number of defenders arrive this past summer, including centre-backs Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana. And if Graham Potter feels the urge, Todd Boehly would be ready with the funds.

The west Londoners have managed to steady their boat with a number of good results. And a few added reinforcements in January should let them have a more clear picture of what will be coming in near future.
