Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea will battle Liverpool for the signing of Belgian ace Jeremy Doku.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal and Chelsea will challenge Liverpool for the signature of Stade Rennais attacker Jeremy Doku in the 2023 January transfer window.
The Belgian international shone at Anderlecht before moving to the Ligue 1 in 2020. He has since seen his stock rise and is today amongst the players keenly watched by top clubs. Just 20, Doku has amassed a fair amount of experience and will only get better with age.
Primarily a right-winger who can also play on the left, Doku is an excellent dribbler and passer. Add to it his pace and ability to move into channels, and it is clear why the top clubs have taken such an interest in his performances.
Liverpool, in particular, have been long-term admirers of the Belgian winger. Aged just 15, he visited the Reds’ training setup and even had a chat with Sadio Mane, a player he was touted to succeed. Despite the youngster choosing to take his talents elsewhere, Liverpool have not dropped their interest in him.
Bringing in a right-winger could be key to moving Mohamed Salah to a central role. The Egyptian international is not cutting it out wide this season but impressed in his cameo upfront at the Ibrox on Wednesday night. Playing him alongside Darwin Nunez is something Klopp could consider should the Reds bring in a reliable right-winger.
They will, however, face much competition. Chelsea are showing ambition under Todd Boehly with the American ready to throw cash at the problem. The Blues have two underperforming assets on the wing in Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. Unless they fail to turn around their fortunes, a change could be on the cards. Doku certainly fits the bill of the young, hungry players Chelsea are targeting since last summer.
The same can be said of Arsenal, who are enjoying a fine season under Mikel Arteta. While the Gunners’ dominance in certain games can be questioned, they look much more formidable than they have looked in the past few years. There are still some areas to be strengthened, and the wings are one of them.
Arsenal are too reliant on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka and even parted ways with Nicolas Pepe (on loan) earlier this year. How long the Gunners can keep up their performances without enough strength in depth remains to be seen. Adding someone like Doku in January could give them the boost needed to end the season strong.
Doku has no shortage of clubs pursuing him and can take his pick should it come to a bidding war. It also hands Rennes a massive opportunity to rake in top dollar for the 20-year-old Belgian international, who could be something special going forward.
