Tottenham remains interested in signing Rodrigo De Paul but faces intense competition from Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan.

According to Fichajes, Rodrigo De Paul remains on the radar of Tottenham, as Antonio Conte hopes to add another midfield option. Spurs face tense competition from Juventus and Inter Milan as the Argentine’s future at Atletico Madrid remains uncertain.

Rodrigo De Paul earned a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2021 as Diego Simeone won the chase for the midfielder by beating Juventus. The Argentine then went on to have a brilliant Copa America campaign with his country, as he seemed like an intelligent buy for the Spanish side.

While he has generally been decent with his performances, De Paul is yet to nail down a proper place in the side. The midfielder has played only half the possible minutes this term, fueling speculation about his future in Madrid.

Atletico splashed €35 million to sign the 28-year-old Argentine international, and the report suggests they could be looking at ways to recoup it. Many notable clubs would be eager to sign De Paul if the opportunity arises at that price.

Juventus and Inter Milan are keen on the midfielder, with the former one of the chasers before he joined Atletico. However, there’s admiration from Tottenham, who have continued monitoring De Paul’s situation since the summer.

The midfielder reportedly turned down an approach from Spurs in the summer window. That situation could change in the coming windows, and Antonio Conte wants to be ready. Tottenham have shown they need a new option in central areas, with their current players proving too flat for the cause.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emerick Hojbjerg have been good so far, while summer arrival Yves Bissouma is yet to be integrated. They barely offer more to the attack, which has alerted Conte to bring in a new option.

Tottenham are already looking at different players and monitoring their situations. However, a player of De Paul’s quality would elevate their chances of challenging for honours and improve their squad drastically. Whether the midfielder signs for them is a different question altogether.

He certainly will be a difficult signing considering the other keen clubs. If Juventus and Inter Milan offer him the chance to play again in Italy, De Paul may find it hard to turn down. For now, Spurs remain an attractive destination for many players, and they will be hoping the Argentine sees them as one.
