Arsenal in transfer tussle to sign Evan Ndicka

Arsenal remain on the hunt for a new centre-back, and Evan Ndicka could be of interest, with the 23-year-old defender available on a free transfer.

According to Rome outlet Il Romanista, Arsenal could rival AS Roma for the signature of Evan Ndicka next summer. The Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back is coming to the end of his contract at the Bundesliga side, making him a top prospect for clubs when the season ends.

Evan Ndicka has made a name for himself with some accomplished performances for Eintracht Frankfurt over the past few seasons. He joined the Bundesliga outfit as a 19-year-old and has since been a regular starter. He has tremendous experience despite being only 23 years old, making over 150 appearances for the club.

But his time with Frankfurt may end soon as the Frenchman could seek a more significant challenge to upgrade his career. And Prominent suitors are coming from England, while AS Roma are also keen on securing him on a free transfer.

West Ham United are among the suitors, while Tottenham and Manchester United have shown admiration. The 23-year-old’s profile makes him an exciting prospect, and being a left-footed centre-half, he could have interest from Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has been in the market for a player of Ndicka’s profile. The Gunners are short in the left central defence position, with Gabriel Magalhaes the only suitable option. Rob Holding and Takehiro Tomiyasu are good backup options, with the latter’s two-footedness considered key.

However, with Holding likely to depart next term, there is a real need for a left-footed player to cover Gabriel or even compete with the Brazilian. Arsenal have seen links with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie emerge in the last weeks, but Ndicka is a more established option than the Ecuadorian.

Ndicka will have plenty of choices when the summer window opens. If Arsenal make next year’s Champions League, they may have a more substantial chance to sign the potential free agent ahead of other suitors.

For now, Ndicka could be focused on his efforts with Frankfurt, who may return to the Europa League after a disastrous Champions League campaign. The 23-year-old defender is confident of not renewing terms with the Bundesliga club, and a move to the Premier League may be on the cards.
