Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old English striker Ivan Toney from Brentford.
According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Ivan Toney. And the north Londoners could make a move for the 26-year-old English striker in the coming windows. The report adds that Tottenham have sent scouts to watch the player in action regularly, and Antonio Conte wants to bring him in to reinforce his attacking unit.
The Brentford striker has been in impressive form this season, scoring six goals in nine Premier League appearances. Tottenham watched Toney in action during Brentford’s humiliating defeat to Newcastle United weekend.
The club officials will not be disappointed despite the result, especially with Toney getting on the scoresheet himself. Apparently, the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United are keeping tabs on the 26-year-old as well.
The English striker joined Brentford for a fee of around £5 million back in 2020 and has proven to be a major bargain for them. So far, he has scored 53 goals and picked up 19 assists across 99 matches for the Bees. If Tottenham come calling in the near future, Brentford will look to demand a premium for his services.
Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have outscored the Brentford striker in the Premier League this season. So it will be interesting to see if he can go on and finish the season strongly. There is no doubt that Toney has the capability to play for a top Premier League club. And Tottenham could definitely use more options in the attacking department.
Harry Kane is currently the only reliable number nine at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the arrival of the English striker will give Antonio Conte more options to work with. Furthermore, the 26-year-old is at the peak of his powers and will give his best years to Tottenham if the move goes through.
Spurs managed to secure Champions League football this season, and they seem capable of doing so once again next year. Toney will likely be tempted to play in the premier European competition, and a move to Tottenham should be appealing. But Brentford might through a spanner in the works, with recent reports claiming they want to tie him down to a new contract.
