Manchester United and Newcastle United’s hopes of landing Ivan Toney could be dashed as the Brentford striker might soon sign a new deal.

According to Daily Mirror, Ivan Toney is set to be rewarded with fresh new terms in an attempt to stop clubs from targeting Brentford’s star striker. The Englishman’s form also earned him a call-up to the national team while attracting Manchester United and Newcastle United, among others.

Toney was on Manchester United’s shortlist in the summer when the Red Devils were searching for a striker as per Erik ten Hag’s demands. But they ended the transfer window without bringing one, and they might revisit their interest in the winter transfer window.

Toney singlehandedly guided Brentford to the Premier League, and it took very little time for the 26-year-old to get himself acclimatised to the nature of the top flight.

He found the back of the net on 12 occasions last term and has backed it up with six goals in nine matches this season. The Brentford hierarchy wants to keep Toney’s suitors at bay and might insert a robust release clause to keep others at an arm’s length.

Newcastle United also are believed to be an admirer of the player. But Eddie Howe could be disappointed with Brentford’s stance of including a mammoth release clause to close down his exit.

Newcastle roped in Alexander Isak this summer, but they could be still in for another forward as Howe wants additional resources to clinch a top-four finish this term. The Magpies have been brilliant this term, and Toney’s arrival will make them significantly stronger than their other contemporaries.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have been sweating over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. And should the Portuguese international decide to end his stint prematurely, the Red Devils might not want to wait till next summer. Erik ten Hag has preferred Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford up front, but neither has the natural centre-forward qualities which Toney would bring.
