Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Nantes goalkeeper Alban Lafont as they are eyeing a long-term successor of current number one Hugo Lloris.
According to Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham Hotspur have chalked out a plan to replace Hugo Lloris. The North London giants are planning a potential deal for Alban Lafont. The 23-year-old goalkeeper recently got a call-up to the French national team and is also expected to be in the World Cup squad.
Tottenham have been planning life without Lloris for quite some time, with the French international poised to leave the club next summer. He recently signed a two-year contract extension but should a good offer arrive the club will not stand in his way. Jan Oblak is one of Tottenham’s top targets.
Lafont hogged the limelight with a superb display against Paris Saint-Germain when Nantes tamed down the French heavyweights 3-1. Lafont made a flurry of saves, and his heroics have not gone unnoticed as a number of clubs are hovering around to acquire his service.
Antonio Conte wants to revamp the goalkeeping department, and the arrival of a new shot-stopper is imminent the next summer. Tottenham have also identified Marc-Andre ter Stegen as a potential arrival, but the German will command a significant fee.
Ter Stegen’s form in the last couple of years, too, has not been that kind to him, and Conte might want second thoughts about his targets. Lafont has been handed the armband this campaign, but Nantes are struggling to make a wave as one win in nine games justifies their current position.
Lafont will enter the final year of his contract next summer, and Nantes are aware of the interest in him. The French outfit cannot afford to lose their most prized assets, but the club will be forced to negotiate a price if they fail to convince the 23-year-old to extend his association with them.
Lafonte has been the preferred choice for his team, and he joins the current crop of players which also includes another French sensation Mike Maignan, who plies his trade for AC Milan. Lafont will attract severe interest from clubs, including Tottenham, and it remains to be seen how Nantes will handle the situation.
