Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is keen on joining Tottenham Hotspur, handing the north London club a boost in his pursuit.

According to a report from Football Insider, James Maddison wants to join Tottenham Hotspur if the north Londoners produce a bid for him. The 25-year-old English playmaker will likely leave Leicester City after the 2022/23 season ends.

The England international has managed to establish himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in the league, and he was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham earlier this summer. However, the move did not materialise eventually.

Football Insider claims that Newcastle United tabled big-money offers for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder during the summer transfer window. But the Foxes managed to hold on to him in the end.

Maddison had an excellent 2021/22 season with Leicester, scoring 18 goals and picking up 12 assists across all competitions. He has started the new campaign on a positive note as well, scoring three times in seven league appearances so far. Despite Leicester’s struggles, Maddison has been performing at a high-level, and it is no surprise that Tottenham are keeping tabs on him.

Apparently, the 25-year-old midfielder has informed his friends that he wants to join a club in the Champions League, and he is confident that he can succeed at that level. It is no secret that Tottenham need to bring in a quality attacking midfielder, and they were linked with several playmakers, including Nicolo Zaniolo, during the summer transfer window.

Maddison would add goals, technicality and set-piece prowess to Antonio Conte’s side. The 25-year-old would be an exceptional acquisition for the north London club. He is well settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

The Foxes are struggling right now, and a player of Maddison’s calibre deserves to play at a higher level. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can take advantage of the situation and force Leicester into selling Maddison at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old English midfielder has a little less than two years left on his contract right now, and he could be snapped up for a reasonable price. Given the fact that Maddison is interested in a move to Tottenham, the north Londoners could use the situation to their advantage as well.
