Chelsea, Manchester United interested in Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly circling around prodigious 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko.

Benjamin Sesko is poised to join another Red Bull entity, RB Leipzig, next summer for a fee of around £55 million. But Manchester United and Chelsea are keeping a tab on the prodigious 19-year-old striker’s movement and could be tempted into a move sooner than expected, as per Fichajes.

Sesko already has had adequate auditions to impress his suitors, and the 19-year-old has been likened to former Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland. Haaland has had an excellent start to life in the Premier League, and Sesko is expected to follow his path.

However, Sesko’s imminent departure to Germany next summer could complicate things for Manchester United and Chelsea. Manchester United have been in the market for a striker who is suitable for Erik ten Hag’s system, and Sesko’s name has popped up pretty frequently, including this past summer.

The youngster could be integrated well into Manchester United’s squad, which is currently being dominated by young players. Erik ten Hag wanted a number nine this summer but instead, the Red Devils decided to bring in Antony who prefers to play on the flanks.

Chelsea parted ways with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in the summer transfer window, although Lukaku might return to Stamford Bridge after playing for Inter Milan on loan this season. Nonetheless, Chelsea invested in a striker by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who might only be a short-term solution for the Blues.

New manager Graham Potter got a look at Sesko when the player tormented Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League match at Stamford Bridge, which happened to be the new manager’s first game at the helm. At 6ft 5in, the prodigious 19-year-old striker is built to sustain the rugged nature of the Premier League, and his desire to win battles has been an integral part of his stature.

Sesko also does offer another dimension without the ball, while his sheer pace can trouble any defender in 1v1 scenarios. Any club that looks to invest in the player would be getting a gem as he does have the quality to exceed Haaland’s quality.

Manchester United will definitely be looking to bring in a striker in January, but a deal for Sesko will be nigh on impossible to pursue. Chelsea endured a tough time on the pitch which also prompted the departure of Thomas Tuchel from the club; and new owner Todd Boehly would do everything to sanction a move for the future superstar.
