Barcelona will reportedly wage a transfer battle with Arsenal and Manchester City for 18-year-old Spanish prodigy Alberto Moleiro.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alberto Moleiro has become one of Europe’s most highly sought-after young prodigies. Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester City are among the high-profile clubs showing an interest in the Spanish prodigy, who will likely leave UD Las Palmas next year.
Alberto Moleiro is one of the most prodigious young attackers in Spain, with the teenage wonderkid coming leaps and bounds since joining UD Las Palmas nearly half a decade ago. The 18-year-old made his first-team debut for the Gran Canarian club at the onset of the 2021/22 campaign, aged 17, before making rapid progress last term.
The Spanish prodigy has continued going from strength to strength early in the 2022/23 season, managing three assists in six La Liga 2 games. And Moleiro’s progress has captured the attention of some of Europe’s most high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
Barcelona and Las Palmas share a healthy working relationship, with the Blaugrana signing Pedri from the Gran Canarian club a few years ago. And Moleiro is the latest Las Palmas prodigy to emerge on Barcelona’s radar, with the Catalan giants even coming close to securing his services in the summer transfer window.
But Las Palmas pulled the plug on negotiations with Barcelona after talks reached nowhere between the two clubs. That has not stopped Barcelona from harbouring hopes of signing Moleiro again, but they will have to fend off stiff competition from Arsenal and Manchester City for the Spanish prodigy.
Like Barcelona, Manchester City showed interest in Moleiro this past summer. But the Citizens did not follow through with an offer, although they continue to closely monitor his progress. As for Arsenal, the Gunners are in the market for an attacker to compete with the young core in the offensive unit, with Moleiro emerging as a viable target.
Meanwhile, the report from Fichajes also quotes Moleiro, who has put his name in the hat to join a club playing possession-based football. That keeps Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal in contention to sign the 18-year-old wonderkid, who seems to have a bright future ahead of him.
