Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been linked with a move for 29-year-old Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech.

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea and Tottenham are currently negotiating a deal for Hakim Ziyech. Spurs are discussing personal terms with the 29-year-old Moroccan playmaker as well.

The Moroccan international has had a difficult time at Stamford Bridge since completing his move from Ajax, and he has not been able to hit top form in English football so far. Despite playing 44 games for Chelsea across all competitions last season, Ziyech picked up just eight goals and six assists.

Ziyech will be keen to kick-start his career this season, and it remains to be seen whether a move to Tottenham can help unlock his true potential. The player has recently been linked with a move back to Ajax as well. The 29-year-old playmaker played some of his finest football at the Dutch club and a return to Amsterdam might do wonders to his confidence.

With very little time left in the transfer window, the Chelsea outcast’s suitors will have to act quickly to sort out the move in time. The 29-year-old needs a manager who will trust in his ability and he also needs to perform in a favourable system. It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte can get the best out of him should the move to Tottenham go through.

There is no doubt that Ziyech is a quality player who will improve Tottenham in the final third if he can settle in quickly. Apart from his technical ability and link-up play, the Moroccan international is an exceptional long-range passer, and someone like Harry Kane will benefit from his arrival, thus explaining the interest from Tottenham in the Chelsea man.

Tottenham have already added impressive depth to their attacking department, and bringing in a quality creative midfielder can take them to a whole new level. Spurs were heavily linked with a move for AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo earlier this summer, and it is fair to assume that a creative midfielder is still on their agenda.

Apparently, the midfielder is valued at £21 million and the deal has the potential to prove a bargain in the long run.
