Arsenal have reached an agreement on personal terms with Douglas Luiz, as they now work towards finding a solution with Aston Villa.

According to Rudy Galetti, Arsenal and Douglas Luiz have agreed on personal terms as the Gunners push to complete a move for the Brazilian midfielder before the transfer deadline. The north Londoners are now looking at finding a solution with Aston Villa, amid ongoing talks between the two clubs.

Arsenal are pushing ahead with a potential move for Douglas Luiz after reigniting their interest in the Aston Villa midfielder earlier today. After the Gunners’ win over Aston Villa, Mikel Arteta admitted that his squad is short on options in the middle after recent injuries.

Thomas Partey is sidelined for some time, while Mohamed Elneny’s injury will keep him out for a significant period. The developments leave Arteta with just Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka as his two senior midfielders.

While Partey could feature before the international break, his injury record since signing for Arsenal has been alarming. Hence Arsenal are looking at another option to keep momentum on their solid start to the season.

There were links with Palmeiras’s Danilo, but the Brazilian outfit are not interested in allowing a sale at this juncture. Hence, Arsenal took the following steps and enquired about Luiz, who has a year remaining at Villa.

Arsenal reportedly made a £20 million bid earlier today, as Aston Villa held firm on their stance the Brazilian international was not for sale. However, Luiz seems keen on a departure and remains open to joining the Gunners.

Talks between the clubs are reportedly ongoing, while Arsenal have agreed on personal terms with Luiz. A long-term contract could be expected to be on offer to the 24-year-old, with wages not likely to pose an issue as the Gunners are pushing to complete the transfer.

Aston Villa are closing in on signing Leander Dendoncker from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as the two clubs have an agreement. The Belgian international could be seen as a direct replacement for Luiz, with Arsenal seemingly in pole position to sign the Brazilian.

This move for Luiz will be one to keep an eye on as things could rapidly develop in the next few hours. Whether that leaves plenty of time for Arsenal to sign a winger remains to be seen, but it may seem unlikely at this stage.
