Manchester United midfielder James Garner has reportedly been linked with a move away from Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, James Garner is a target for Everton, who have reached an agreement with Manchester United over a late move for the 21-year-old central midfielder.

Apparently, other Premier League clubs have been keen on signing the talented midfield prodigy. But Everton are the front-runners, and it remains to be seen whether the Toffees can get the deal over the line for the Manchester United midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.

James Garner was on loan at Watford and Nottingham Forest over the last two seasons, and he managed to impress thoroughly with regular action at those clubs. The prodigious midfielder will be hoping to play more often at a higher level this season after failing to win over Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, and moving to Everton could be ideal for him.

Garner is unlikely to get ample first-team opportunities at Old Trafford, and therefore, a move away from Manchester United would be ideal for his development. The 21-year-old has already proven his quality in the EFL Championship, and he needs a more challenging move in order to accelerate his growth.

Everton could definitely use more depth in the central midfield, and the Manchester United youngster could be an ideal option for them. Furthermore, Frank Lampard has a history of nurturing young players and has proven that during his stints with Derby County and Chelsea.

Even Anthony Gordon demonstrated considerable improvement under Lampard last season, and Garner will hope to do the same. Regular opportunities at Everton could help the Manchester United prodigy improve quickly and fulfil his tremendous potential.

Romano claims that the move will be a permanent one, and the two clubs have now finalised an agreement, which will be worth £15-20 million. Garner is still quite young, and if he manages to impress at Everton, he will have plenty of time to secure a big move in the future.

As for Everton, the Manchester United midfielder should be an inexpensive addition with a lot of potential upside. If Garner manages to fulfil his potential at Goodison Park, the Toffees could then move him on for a considerable fee in the future.
