Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice are reportedly keen on signing Trevoh Chalobah, who could be finally allowed to move as Chelsea close in on Wesley Fofana.
According to Foot Mercato, OGC Nice are considering making an approach for Trevoh Chalobah before the summer transfer window shuts down. The Chelsea defender could be made available to depart on loan, with the Blues getting close to sealing the transfer of top target Wesley Fofana.
Trevoh Chalobah’s situation is a little complicated at Chelsea, with the defender still unclear on his future. The club’s relentless pursuit of Wesley Fofana is designed to curtail his time on the pitch, so the 23-year-old is evaluating the options in front of him.
Despite multiple enquiries from Italy, with AC Milan reportedly keen at one stage, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel blocked any potential move, considering the club could not agree with Leicester City for Fofana. There was a feeling the Blues could sanction a move for Chalobah if they could secure the Frenchman’s services.
With Chelsea reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Leicester for Fofana, the time may have come to oversee Chalobah’s exit. The Blues remain uninterested in a permanent deal. Hence a loan move could be on the cards. The defender also seeks a new challenge, where he would be guaranteed regular playing time.
Ligue 1 bigwigs OGC Nice are reportedly keen on signing the Chelsea defender as Lucien Favre continues to comb the market for a new centre-back. Having found out the difficulties in signing in some of their preferred targets, Chalobah could come across as a solution to their requirement.
The Ligue 1 outfit recently signed Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe on a season-long loan deal and could double their efforts to bring in another footballer from the Premier League. Signing a massive prospect like Chalobah could be helpful for Nice and the Chelsea defender.
Chalobah, however, will be keen on returning to England once a potential loan deal ends, meaning there are fewer chances for Nice to make the deal permanent. The big worry would be to get a prospective deal over the line before the transfer deadline. There could be further interest from other clubs in Chalobah as the window gradually shuts, and if Nice are to delay any approach, they might lose out on the defender.
