Tottenham are reportedly in talks to sign Atletico Madrid wide man Yannick Carrasco, who could be available for a cut-price £25.5 million fee.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Yannick Carrasco. That is according to a report from Daily Telegraph, which claims that Spurs have now opened talks with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid to land the Belgian attacker before Thursday’s transfer deadline, with Antonio Conte understood to be a big fan of the 28-year-old utility man.

Tottenham have had arguably the most successful transfer windows of any Premier League team, completing seven excellent picks. Spurs managed to finish their incoming summer business early on, but Antonio Conte is still keen to see more new faces arrive in North London with numerous sales expected from the club.

The Lilywhites have already sold or loaned out Steven Bergwijn, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso, and Harry Winks is now departing from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to add to the departures. Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon will also likely leave Spurs by Thursday’s deadline.

Gil looks set to join Valencia on loan again, but Conte is insisting on getting in a replacement first. Daniel James and Adama Traore are a few names mentioned, but it seems the Italian head coach wants a more established name in Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco.

Initially, Los Rojiblancos were not keen on selling their star man, but they are said to be open to his exit now before the summer transfer window slams shut. Carrasco has a release clause worth £51.2 million, but it is anticipated that he would be allowed to leave Diego Simeone’s team for far less than that.

Earlier in the summer, Manchester United were linked with the 28-year-old wide man, and it is believed that the player was valued at around £25.5 million back then. So, it will be interesting to see how much Atletico Madrid demand from Tottenham for his services this summer.

Carrasco, who is in his second permanent spell at Wanda Metropolitano, has scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists in the past two La Liga seasons. Carrasco has 57 caps for his country and eight goals and is set to be part of Roberto Martinez’s Belgium squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year.

A player of such talent and experience at that price would be considered a steal for Conte’s side, and he has the added bonus of being highly versatile. Carrasco played last season mainly as a left winger, although he can also feature on the right or through the middle.

Carrasco would be a solid addition and could provide quality backup for an array of positions across the pitch for Tottenham. And the 28-year-old wide man could be a player who Antonio Conte can take to a new level with his specialty to mould wing-backs.
