Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle for Martin Dubravka, with the keeper set to leave Newcastle United on an initial loan deal.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Martin Dubravka is inching closer to leaving Newcastle United on a loan deal, with the club ready to accept Manchester United’s proposal for the goalkeeper. The Red Devils will have a buy option of around £5 million at the end of the season.

Manchester United are set to finish the window on a high after a few priority transfers went through. Erik ten Hag wanted the club to respond positively in the transfer market after many setbacks during the summer.

The main objective was to bring in players that improve the current squad, a need that accelerated after the club’s disastrous start to the season. They have since signed Casemiro from Real Madrid and recently finalised a move for Antony, who remains their top attacking target.

Ten Hag always wanted to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with David De Gea. Kevin Trapp was their primary target, but the Germany international refused Manchester United’s offer and chose to remain at Eintracht Frankfurt. The club considered other targets like Yann Sommer, but Martin Dubravka seemed achievable.

Manchester United made a loan proposal to Newcastle United, which included a £5 million option to purchase the Slovakian at the end of the season. The Magpies pondered over the offer, but there was a positive feeling they might allow the keeper to depart after Nick Pope’s arrival from Burnley.

In recent days, Manchester United reportedly agreed on personal terms with Dubravka, with the keeper keen on the move. He will not be a starter at the club, although there’s the chance to challenge the shaky De Gea for the spot and play regularly in cup games and the Europa League.

As things stand, Manchester United have an agreement with Newcastle United for the loan transfer for Dubravka. The loan proposal, as reported earlier, will have a buy option worth £5 million, and the keeper will likely complete the transfer in the coming days.

Manchester United are expected to remain active in the window, although it may seem they have completed most of their deals this summer. There could be an opportunistic signing if someone becomes available, although there’s the impending situation with Cristiano Ronaldo.

If the forward decides to leave, Manchester United may dip into the market for a striker signing. For now, things look calm, and many would expect it remains the same beyond the transfer deadline.
