Liverpool have been handed a major blow in their efforts to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers Ruben Neves.

According to 90min, Premier League giants Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their efforts to bring in Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves to Anfield this summer.

The Reds appeared to have completed the summer transfer business early. However, an injury crisis in the midfield has forced Jurgen Klopp’s hand, and a busy few days could be on the cards on Merseyside.

Thiago Alcantara’s injury sees him join Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain on the sidelines. With Jordan Henderson and James Milner not getting any younger, the Reds are in dire need of reinforcements. Unless new additions are made, the club will struggle to compete on all fronts.

One of the players on Liverpool’s radar is Wolves star, Ruben Neves. The Portuguese international is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and has an impressive passing range that will aid the Reds’ attacking style. Partnering him alongside Thiago and Fabinho will open up new avenues, giving the Reds attack more bite.

Unfortunately, the player is unlikely to leave Molineux for Anfield this summer. Wolves boss Bruno Lage opened up on the situation, claiming that the player is set to stay put at the Midlands side. With just days to go before the summer transfer window closes, it is difficult to see Liverpool land their man.

The player, for his part, is keen to experience Champions League football and can do so should he move to Anfield. He will, however, not come cheap, and the Reds are unlikely to break the bank. On paper, Neves is a brilliant player who will not just act as a playmaker but also add a goalscoring threat from midfield.

While Liverpool’s situation could help Jurgen Klopp blood in Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, the young duo lack the experience to cut it at the business end of the season. Experience will be key in such situations, and it is something that the Reds can’t afford to ignore. There are three days left before the 2022 summer transfer window shuts. Whether or not Klopp and co can give their fans something to cheer about remains to be seen.
