Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has reportedly been linked with a move away from the club for a while now, with Fulham keen on signing him.

According to a report from L’Equipe, Houssem Aouar is a target for Premier League club Fulham, and the Londoners are looking to sign the 24-year-old French international before the summer transfer window closes.

Houssem Aouar is highly rated in France and has a massive future ahead of him. A player of his calibre deserves to play for a top club, and a move to Fulham could be seen as a step down. It will be interesting to see if the Cottagers can agree on a fee with Lyon for the 24-year-old midfielder;s services before the summer window closes.

The Frenchman was heavily linked with clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal in the past, but those moves did not materialise eventually. Other Premier League clubs like Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace have also shown interest in Aouar, with Fulham now joining the race to sign him.

It is believed that the player is extremely keen on moving to the Premier League and would be open to joining Fulham if the two clubs can come to an agreement. French outfit Nice were keen on signing Aouar earlier this summer, but he turned down their offer and chose to wait for a Premier League move instead.

The 24-year-old midfielder has a contract until the summer of 2023, and Lyon are thus under pressure to cash in on him this summer. They will not want to lose a key player on a free transfer next summer, and therefore it makes sense for them to offload Aouar this summer.

Meanwhile, Fulham could definitely use more creativity and technical ability at the heart of their midfield despite the arrival of Joao Palhinha, and Aouar seems like an exceptional addition for them. The French international has the potential to develop into a top-class player, and regular game time at the Premier League club could accelerate his development.

Furthermore, the 24-year-old is far from his peak right now. And if Aouar can impress in the Premier League this season, there is no reason why he cannot secure a big move to a top club in the near future. For now, a move to Fulham seems like an ideal opportunity for the young Frenchman. Meanwhile, Fulham are trying to sign Layvin Kurzawa from Paris Saint-Germain.
