Real Madrid line up last-ditch move for Raul de Tomas

La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering launching the offensive to sign Spanish striker Raul de Tomas from Espanyol.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Raul de Tomas is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a late move in the ongoing transfer window. The Spanish striker will likely leave Espanyol this summer, alerting Los Blancos to consider a possible deal.

Raul de Tomas has gone from strength to strength since joining Espanyol from Benfica over two years ago. The 27-year-old had to go through the grind of La Liga 2 before making his mark in the top flight, but he has established a stable footing in La Liga in the past year.

The Spanish striker enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, scoring 17 goals in 34 league appearances for Espanyol. But de Tomas faces an uncertain future in the ongoing transfer window as he wants to embark on a new adventure this summer. Such a situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Raul de Tomas is a product of the Real Madrid academy, but he never managed to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, his stature has risen considerably since leaving Real Madrid, and he is now one of Spain’s best strikers, as illustrated by the 17 goals he scored last season.

The reigning La Liga champions have offloaded Luka Jovic this summer, while Mariano Diaz faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. And Real Madrid might have to delve into the market for a striker if Mariano leaves, with de Tomas emerging as a viable target.

But while the Merengues have shown interest in the Spanish striker for several months, they are only considering signing him now. And Real Madrid might succeed with a late approach, with Espanyol reportedly ready to sell the 27-year-old after signing Joselu in a Bosman move this summer.

The Spanish striker has reportedly been waiting for Real Madrid’s approach and might not hesitate in returning to the Bernabeu, even though he will play second fiddle to Karim Benzema. It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will submit an offer to sign the Spanish striker soon.
